      SEPTEMBER 14, 1932 – MAY 7, 2022

Phyllis Gwendolyn Manchak (nee Wasieczko), age 89, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2022, in Leduc, Alberta, surrounded by family.

She was born on September 14, 1932 in Edmonton and was the second oldest of 4 daughters which included Ruth Humphrys (1929-2013), Patricia Hamula (1934-1999) and Dallas Krysa (1936-).

After a prairie farm childhood typical of that era, Phyllis married her soulmate and beloved husband Stephen Manchak on February 15, 1949 and they settled and farmed in the Calmar area. They were very active in the farming and curling communities for decades.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Annie and William Wasieczko, her husband Stephen, her sisters Ruth and Patricia, her brothers-in-law Jim Humphrys and Toby Krysa, and her uncle John Woloszyn.

She is survived by her sister Dallas, her brother-in-law Lawrence Hamula, and will be deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Phyllis will be remembered for her mischievous humour, and peals of laughter rang out wherever she was to be found (particularly when she was with her sister Pat!). Although she had no children of her own, she was in every way a mother to several generations. She was the bedrock of her large extended family and her community, providing strength, guidance, and support to all, often with a wink and entertaining remark. Her laughter, wonderful wisdom and innate sensitivity will be forever cherished.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 5-7 pm at Hainstock & Son Funeral Chapel at 4802–47 Avenue, Leduc. A service will be held on Monday May 16, 2022 at 2 pm at the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church at 50102 Rge Rd. 265, Leduc County. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Lunch will be held following interment at the Royal Canadian Legion in Calmar at 4815-47 Street.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Leduc Hospital for their attentiveness and care.

In memory of Phyllis, donations may be made to the church and cemetery or to the charity of your choice.
